Getaway in Savannah (03-05 to 03-07)

My mom, dad, Anne Marie, and I headed down to Savannah for a weekend getaway. Unfortunately, Adam and Joey were out of town the weekend we planned to go. We all piled into one car that was loaded down with way more luggage than even one person would need for a week.
We took long walks around the city and along the river. I had never visited Savannah before and I fell in love with the moss-lined trees, history, and southern twang.
On Saturday we took a carriage ride through the historic city to learn more about the origin of the landmarks.
Our trusty Steed...

Below is Paula Deen's Famous Restaurant, Lady and Son's. We never ate there but people lined the streets at times to get in for something either fried or covered in butter- I bet it was DELICIOUS...
Our last night we had a fantastic dinner at Belford's. Everyone that we asked about the best restaurant in town directed us this way.
Of course the weekend ended to soon, as they often do, and we headed back home. It was a great weekend and the only thing that was missing was Adam and Joey.

Prized Possession

Adam's uncle and aunt made us the above sofa table. They came over one day and took measurements so that it would fit just perfectly. We were able to make specific requests such as drawers and shelves. Uncle George is so talented and he can make virtually anything. Aunt Joyce is his perfect partner because she does all of the stripping and staining. One of the neatest things about this piece is that the front is made of one solid piece of wood. You can even see the grain of the wood as it moves to the drawers.Their skill and craftmanship is amazing but the best part is that it is made of love! For our wedding gift they surprised us with this beautiful wine rack. It is currently displayed in our dining room. Everyone that comes over hears about the talent of Adam's aunt and uncle.
They are beautiful pieces of furniture that we will treasure for a lifetime. They truly are our most prized possessions.

Hope's Baby Shower (02-21-10)

Adam's sister, Hope, is expecting her first baby on March 21, a son named Charlie. Everyone in the family is so excited to have another child to put in the mix. Grace has been such a blessing and has brought so much joy to the Parrish clan that I know it is only going to get better as the family grows. A large group of family and friends threw Hope a baby shower. She had about 40 guest so it was quite a large crowd. Hope was beautiful and she is more than stocked with all of the essentials.

Here are the four Amigos (as you can see, Kelly is expecting as well)
I made the centerpiece for the shower. They wanted to have cupcakes at the shower so they asked me to make a "fake cake" that could be used as a centerpiece. I was pretty proud of this one as it was the biggest cake I have made!

Here I am with these lovely ladies...
I previously wrote about the sewing lesson that my friend Brooke gave me the Wednesday before the shower. After learning, I quickly turned into a sewing fool every waking minute. Between working, sewing, make petit fours, attending Blake and Rebecca's shower, implementing a 5K race, sushi-making class with Adam, decorating the centerpiece, and helping with Hope's shower, I was absolutely exhausted. I knew that I wanted to give handmade gifts at the shower and I had a quick deadline. Everything seemed to work out but I have a feeling I will look back on that weekend and think "I could never do all of that again!"

Here is Hope opening the gifts I made...
"C" Initial Burp Cloth
Elephant Burp Cloth
Bowtie Bib
Whale Onesie
Tie T-shirt
Fish Onesie
The shower turned out fantastic and everyone had such a nice time celebrating this special time with Hope!

Petit Fours (02-20-10)

I found a picture of one of the petit fours that I made for Blake and Rebecca's Shower on my other camera...

Sushi Making Classes (02-20-10)

Adam and I absolutely love sushi. I seriously could probably eat it everyday and not get tired of it. My anniversary gift to Adam was to take a sushi-making class. I researched a lot of them but decided to attend the class at SakiTumi in Columbia. We were served soup, salad, and edemame along with our rolls. The class took about 4 hours and it turned out to be a wonderful date night. It definately made me want to buy a rice cooker!
This is my first hand-made roll...
Adam rolling away...just look at that form!
Adam's yummy creation...
Working on our second roll...
Salmon and Tuna
Another roll I made...of course, I put my signature "S" on the plate...

We had a really nice evening and I would love to do it again. Maybe oneday I will make sushi at my own house!
