Alaska: Day 1 (06-24-10)

Our journey began bright and early on June 24, 2010. Dad, Mom, Adam, and I drove up to Charlotte to stay with Joey and Anne Marie the night before so we could all ride to the airport together. We forced ourselves out of bed at 4am so that we could be ready for our 6am flight. By noon (pacific time), we had all arrived in Seattle and were ready for our once-in-a-lifetime adventure.

Once we got our luggage, we rented a mini-van and began a beautiful scenic drive north widing through back roads. We stayed off the interstate and visited several small towns tucked away in the lush green of the Washington landscape.

A view of Seattle as we drove out of town...

After a drive through the quaint oceanside town of Kirktown we started our culinary experience at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant called "Spud Fish & Chips." There, we enjoyed fresh cod and fries across from the waterfront.
After a delicious meal and a chance to stretch our legs, it was back in teh car to continue our journey.
After a while, we pulled into a waterfront park. The water was a beautiful shade of blue against the rocky shore with huge piles of driftwood lining the waterfront. We stopped for a few pictures and then continued our trip.

We walked through the town of LaConner and continued north before deciding to stop in Bellingham for the night.
The view of the beautiful farmland we passed on the back roads of Washington.
My mom's favorite flower is a daisy. I think of her every time I see one so I just had to take a picture for her.
We stopped at a small inn, where we dropped off our bags and walked to a delicioius Greek restaurant called Five Columns. Then, it was time to turn in. Between the airplane trip, the car ride, and the time difference, it definitely felt like bedtime.
